President & Chief Executive Officer
Tom Hayes has led the largest U.S. food company since late 2016, spearheading its transformation to a modern food company and putting sustainability at the center of everything Tyson Foods does. In his role, he leads 122,000 team members and familiar brands including Tyson®, Jimmy Dean®, Hillshire Farm®, Sara Lee®, Ball Park®, Wright®, Aidells®, ibp® and State Fair®.
Tom is focused on creating shared value, addressing societal needs and challenges in a way that benefits company stakeholders. He’s committed to using the company’s unmatched scale to make a positive impact – for instance, making chicken raised with no antibiotics ever widely accessible in the U.S.
A consumer products veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Tom has a track record of growing businesses by evolving them alongside customers and consumers. He previously held positions with Tyson Foods as chief commercial officer and president of foodservice. He joined Tyson Foods with the acquisition of The Hillshire Brands Company in 2014, where he served as chief supply chain officer.
Prior leadership roles with Sara Lee and US Foodservice, Inc. gave Tom a broad industry perspective, as did management, sales and marketing roles with ConAgra Foods, The Fort James Corporation, Stella Foods and Kraft Foods.
Tom is on the executive board of directors of the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) and is a member of The Business Roundtable. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s of business administration degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He started his career in food as a teen washing dishes in a New Hampshire restaurant close to where he grew up.
