Tyson Foods and Performance Foodservice - Virginia Donates 39,200 Pounds of Chicken to FeedMore in Virginia

RICHMOND, Virginia – June 4, 2015 – Today, Tyson Foods, Inc. and Performance Foodservice - Virginia teamed up to continue their efforts to fight hunger with a donation of 39,200 pounds of chicken to FeedMore’s Central Virginia Foodbank in Richmond, Virginia.

The donation arrived at the food bank today at 8:00 a.m. Representatives from Tyson Foods, Performance Foodservice, and the CEO of FeedMore were present to help deliver the chicken.

“We’re proud to try to do our part to help great partners like the FeedMore Food Bank, which works on the front lines every day to end hunger,” said Jeff Wood, director of community relations. “Too many Virginians and Americans are food insecure, and although the problem is complex, the answer starts with getting involved. It’s our privilege to help.”

FeedMore is a hunger-relief leader, created in 2008, made up of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia, and the Community Kitchen. FeedMore provides hunger relief to over 200,000 children, families, and seniors with the mission “to fight hunger in Central Virginia.”

Since 2000 Tyson Foods has donated 99 million pounds of protein in the United States.  Meat and poultry are nutrient dense foods, according to health experts, and can be especially important to individuals needing more protein, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. According to food banks nationwide, meat and poultry are the most requested and least available foods.

Tyson Foods’ current “KNOW Hunger” campaign is focused on helping more people understand and join the effort to eliminate hunger in America.  The company also partners with Share Our Strength, Lift Up America, and Feeding America to raise awareness and help feed the hungry across the nation
