Driver Requirements and Pay Package Details

Requirements

Drivers are responsible for the safe transport and delivery of freight in a professional manner by driving diesel-powered tractor/trailer combinations short and long distances. They deliver product on time, while complying with Department of Transportation rules and regulations. The following are the requirements for driving for Tyson Foods:

  • Must have a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License in your state of residence
  • Age 21 or older with nine (9) months verifiable OTR driving experience in a tractor/trailer combination vehicle within the last 12 months
  • Must be willing to park at designated parking area 
  • Must live in defined hiring area
  • Cannot exceed 3 separate terms of employment as a driver for Tyson Foods (OTR-Long Haul Division)
  • Must be able to pass a D.O.T. Physical Examination and Drug Screening as outlined in the D.O.T Regulations
  • Must be able to pass a road test
  • Must be willing to run 48 states and drive various hours of the day and night
  • Must be able to deliver to all Tyson locations and Tyson Customer Locations per their entry requirements
  • Accidents, incidents, and moving violations, regardless of fault, will be evaluated using the Tyson Driver Evaluation System
  • Under the Tyson Driver Evaluation System, applicants will have to be at twelve (12) points or less
  • Must not have a DUI, DWI, or OUI conviction in a commercial motor vehicle
  • Must not have a DUI, DWI, or OUI conviction in a personal vehicle in the last (8) eight years
  • No positive test on any D.O.T. drug or alcohol test (including having refused a test) in the last three (3) years
  • Cannot exceed ten (10) driving jobs in the last 3 years
  • No preventable rollover accidents
  • Must meet Tyson Minimum Qualification requirements on the PSP report

Pay Package Details

Solo

Solo drivers are valued Tyson Foods team members. They are the final piece in executing Tyson Foods' promise to provide world class customer service to its customers. Launch a career with Tyson Foods and enjoy the benefits of driving for a private fleet. Tyson Foods offers a great pay and benefits package, and enables drivers to sustain consistent pay checks and provide for their families. Our solo drivers average 2500 miles per week, with an average salary of $60,000 per year.

Solo Driver Pay

Additional Pay for short trips:

  • All single trips less than 500 miles will be paid an additional $.03 per mile
  • All single trips less than 250 miles will be paid an additional $.06 per mile

Home Time:

  • Variable to your choice and company availability.
  • One (1) day off for every six (6) days out on the road. All equipment must be parked at the nearest plant and / or terminal.

Safety Pay:

  • Safety Compliance pay is extra $0.01 per mile paid quarterly based on:
    1. No preventable accidents or incidents
    2. Minimum of 24,000 miles driven for the quarter
    3. Employed for entire quarter
    4. No Roadside inspections w/defects

Other Pay:

  • Holiday Pay: Nine (9) paid holidays at $130.00 per holiday
  • Layover Pay: $100.00 after the first 18 hours and not repositioned over 200 miles
  • Unloading Pay: Tyson Foods pays for loading and unloading. Driver may have to locate a lumper and get fees approved by dispatch and / or sometimes load or reload if lumpers are not available.
  • Drop and Pickup Pay: Multi drop loads/pickups are $18.00 on all pickups or drops. No pay for single drop or pickup.

Vacation:

  • 1 week after 1 year
  • 2 weeks after 3 years
  • 4 weeks after 10 years

Regional Driver Pay

Additional Pay for short trips:

  • There is no longer short mileage pay in regional offering

Home Time:

  • Variable to your choice and company availability.
  • One (1) day off for every six (6) days out on the road. All equipment must be parked at the nearest plant and / or terminal.

Safety Pay:

  • Safety Compliance pay is extra $0.01 per mile paid quarterly based on:
    1. No preventable accidents or incidents
    2. Minimum of 24,000 miles driven for the quarter
    3. Employed for entire quarter
    4. No Roadside inspections w/defects

Other Pay:

  • Holiday Pay: Nine (9) paid holidays at $130.00 per holiday
  • Layover Pay: $100.00 after the first 18 hours and not repositioned over 200 miles

Other Pay - New Holland, PA Regional Drivers:

  • Holiday Pay: Nine (9) paid holidays at $142.00 per holiday
  • Layover Pay: $100.00 after the first 18 hours and not repositioned over 200 miles
  • Unloading Pay: Tyson Foods pays for loading and unloading. Driver may have to locate a lumper and get fees approved by dispatch and / or sometimes load or reload if lumpers are not available.
  • Drop and Pickup Pay: Multi drop loads/pickups are $40.00 on all pickups or drops. No pay for single drop or pickup.

Vacation:

  • 1 week after 1 year
  • 2 weeks after 3 years
  • 4 weeks after 10 years

 

Team

Team drivers are important to Tyson Foods because they help transfer our products and take care of our customers’ needs.  Team drivers can take advantage of Tyson Foods large network, consistent freight patterns, and a great pay and benefits package.  Our team drivers average approximately 5,500 miles per week.

Team Driver Pay

Additional Pay for short trips:
