Tyson Foods YMCA

Garden City, Kan. – May 5, 2016 – The Garden City Family YMCA hosted an event today to announce a $100,000 donation from Tyson Foods, Inc. The donation will go toward the construction of a 27,730-square-foot inflatable sports dome with indoor athletic facilities, including basketball courts, a gymnastics area and walking track.

“The YMCA is critical to the quality of life, and health and wellness of our community,” said Brad Shafer, Tyson Foods’ Finney County complex manager. “We’re proud to support the YMCA’s efforts, while providing more options for our team members and neighbors to live a healthy lifestyle.”

Tyson Foods has six facilities in Kansas and employs more than 5,000 in the state.

“This gift from Tyson Foods is a huge boost to our capital campaign,” said Chad Knight, CEO of the Garden City Family YMCA. “We are so grateful for the support because it gets us closer to our goal of starting construction of the dome this fall, while ultimately helping us better serve our community.”

Once complete, the dome will allow for expansion of health and wellness programs for youth, families, adults and seniors. Additional space will also be available for youth sports teams to hold practices, games and tournaments.

The YMCA provides a variety of programs that support educational achievement, health and wellness, childcare and summer day camps.
