Tyson Foods Ranked High on Forbes’ Reputation List
SPRINGDALE, Ark. – April 8, 2011 – Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) was named one of the most reputable companies in America, according to Forbes magazine this week.
Tyson ranked as No. 50 of 150 companies on Forbes’ annual revue titled “America’s Most and Least Reputable Big Companies.” The magazine based its April 5 article on research by the Reputation Institute, an international image management consulting firm based in New York, N.Y. The Reputation Institute polled nearly 33,000 consumers about their emotional perceptions of some of the largest companies in the U.S. and each earned a “RepTrak Pulse” score between 0 and 100, based on trust, esteem, admiration and good feeling. Tyson’s score was 72.51.
Online retailer, Amazon.com was No. 1 on the list. Kraft Foods, FedEx, Walt Disney and Google were among the top 10. Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. also placed on the list. The entire story is available at www.forbes.com under the Leadership tab.
According to the article, the Reputation Institute analyzed seven dimensions of corporate reputation: workplace, governance, citizenship, financial performance, products and services, leadership, and innovation.
Part of Tyson’s reputation is tied to its ongoing corporate citizenship efforts by fighting hunger in the U.S. The company celebrated 10 years of involvement in hunger relief in September 2010 and has donated almost 79 million pounds of protein during that time.
In an effort to help raise awareness of hunger in the United States, Tyson initiated its KNOW Hunger campaign to encourage people to KNOW the scope of hunger in their own communities and get involved in relief efforts, so someday there will be NO hunger in our country.
As part of the campaign, Tyson collaborated with the Food Research and Action Center to commission one of the largest and most comprehensive surveys ever conducted exclusively on attitudes and perceptions of hunger. The results were announced on March 10, 2011 and are available at www.tysonhungerrelief.com.
In March alone, Tyson donated more than 1 million pounds of boneless skinless chicken to 37 food banks in 23 communities across the country.
The company reported record sales of $28.4 billion for fiscal 2010, which ended October 2, 2010. Diluted earnings per share were $2.06 for the fiscal year.
